Ready for a serious scare?
The frightful Terror Behind the Walls at Eastern State Penitentiary officially opens for its 25th-anniversary season Friday, September 18.
The iconic Halloween attraction attracts people from around the world and 2015 will be bolder than ever to mark Terror Behind the Walls‘ 25th year of scaring its visitors silly.
Eastern State Penitentiary’s terrifying Terror Behind The Walls turns the fright factor up on fall fun with a spooky theatrical production all taking place within the walls of an already-eerie crumbling historic prison that has been rumored to be actually haunted since the 1940s.
With more than two dozen nights of shows this fall through November, there are tons of opportunities to take in this incredibly creepy experience — really, it’s scary.
Read on for a primer to Terror Behind the Walls at Eastern State Penitentiary.
What To Expect
An 11-acre haunted house inside an already haunted attraction, Terror Behind the Walls takes full advantage of its inherently spooky setting at historic Eastern State Penitentiary, which was once the most famous and expensive prison in the world, but now stands in ruin.
This gothic structure in the Fairmount neighborhood is intimidating enough during the day, with its soaring 30-foot walls and empty guard towers. At night, the vacant cellblocks and shadowy passages become truly terrifying.
Guests are greeted with six-foot tall, 300 pound gargoyles atop the looming stone façade tower of Eastern State Penitentiary. Behind the gates, Hollywood-quality special effects and lighting, digital sound effects, animatronic creatures, custom props and more than 200 performers come together to create an experience so terrifying that it attracts thrill-seekers from around the globe.
One of the nation’s largest, most ambitious and top-rated haunted attractions then takes its visitors — more than 100,000 visitors each year — on a heart-pounding journey through six attractions, each more gripping than the last and two that are brand new for 2015.
Two Groundbreaking New Attractions In 2015
Each year, the creators of Terror Behind the Walls pull out all the stops for a thrilling Halloween experience. For the attraction’s 25th anniversary, two brand-new attractions will be unveiled to complement four returning attractions, giving everyone — even repeat visitors — a surprising and haunting show.
Inside Quarantine: 4D, visitors will be immersed in the experience of being exposed to an infectious outbreak — with symptoms like hallucinations, distorted depth perception and other mind-altering effects.
The final attraction of the haunted house this year brings the second new attraction: Break Out, a prison-break style adventure with inmates trying to escape every way imaginable.
