NHL Draft Comes to Philly for First Time Ever – Our Weekly Obsession

Who doesn’t love hockey??  We sure do and after last season, we’re fired up for this upcoming season with the Fly Guys!  Want to hear something really cool?  This year- for the first time ever- the NHL Draft is taking place in our very own city!

The 2014 NHL Draft kicks off in Philadelphia next weekend.  The draft will take place at the Wells Fargo Center Friday, June 27 and Saturday, June 28, bringing two days of major off-season hockey excitement to Philly.  NHL team executives, scouts, and coaches from all 30 clubs to draft picks and players, plus thousands of fans will all be right here in the City of Brotherly Love.

The event is sold out, but there’s a chance you can win a pair of the two day passes!  Enter today through Monday, June 23 to win. There will be two winners, and each winner will receive a pair of two-day passes. Tickets will be waiting at the will call booth at the Wells Fargo Center.

Sessions begin with Round One on Friday, June 27 at 7 p.m. and continue with Rounds Two through Seven on Saturday, June 28 at 10 a.m.  Notably, the Philadelphia Flyers hold the 17th overall pick in the first round of the draft.

Details below for the NHL Draft Fan Fest and Draft Hockey Career Conference were originally pulled from uwishunu.com.

NHL Draft Fan Fest

The Philadelphia Flyers, Xfinity Live! Philadelphia and the NHL are teaming up to host a free Fan Fest during both days of the draft, June 27-28, to host fans at Xfinity Live!, the dining and entertainment venue right next to the stadium.

From 3 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June 27 and 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, Xfinity Live! invites fans out to check out hockey-themed and family-friendly activities, live DJs, food and beverages and exclusive draft merch.

Plus, fans can get hands on with hockey activities, including a full-size street hockey rink for pick-up play and skill challenges, and family-friendly good times like an obstacle course, bungee run, bounce house, giant slide and a large arcade. The Academy of Natural Sciences, The Franklin Institute and the Please Touch Museum will be on-hand, too, with interactive activity stations.

It’s a great option for super fans who didn’t score seats inside the stadium, and admission is free, no ticket required.

2014 NHL Draft Hockey Career Conference

Those looking to do even more around draft time might consider the Sports Management Worldwide Hockey Career Conference, held at the Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown Hotel from June 26-28.

The two-day event includes panel discussions and question-answer periods on sports business, athlete representation, scouting, league management and sports business strategies. The conference starts with a welcome reception at The Field House in Center City Philadelphia on Thursday, June 26, followed by the conference on Friday, June 27 in the morning and afternoon.

Conference registration also includes lower bowl tickets to both days of the NHL Draft, and transportation will be provided via the NHL Executive buses to and from the Wells Fargo Center.
