Spring Has Sprung and So Have the Hottest Spots in Philly
Hey Philly peeps! With the arrival of warmer weather comes more things to do! Here’s a quick list of springtime favorites that are open now for you to check out this weekend.
Chinese Lantern Festival
When: Now through June 12th – Open Daily
Where: Franklin Square at 6th and Race Streets
Cost: Admission to Franklin Square is free during the day, but at 6 PM each night, the festival becomes a ticketed event with prices being $17 for adults, $15 for seniors and military, and $12 for kids 17 and under.
*Note* Tickets are available on a time slot basis in one hour increments for Friday and Saturday.
What is it? It is the first festival of its kind to be celebrated in the Northeastern United States, and is being held at Franklin Square as part of their 10th anniversary celebration. Enjoy 25 glowing lanterns, handcrafted giant flowers, a 3 story pagoda, and a 200-foot long dragon that decorates the square, all created by lantern artisans from China. There are also vendors and craftsmen on-site where you can buy anything from Chinese paintings of your name to edible sugar dragons. This is definitely a can’t miss event!
Independence Beer Garden
When: Now – TBD. Opens at 11:30 AM everyday and closes at 10 PM Sunday – Tuesday, 11 PM Wednesday and Thursday, and 12 AM on Friday and Saturday
Where: 100 S Independence Mall West
It’s back! Independence Beer Garden opened back up for the Spring and Summer on April 21st. Brought to us by the same group who designed Spruce Street Harbor, this is another great springtime escape that is in the heart of Old City. Not only are there 40 local and domestic drafts on tap, but the unique carefree atmosphere is perfect for a friends night out. Play a game of ping pong, relax in Adirondack chairs or at picnic tables in front of a 10 foot projection TV, or get a competitive game of table-top Jenga going. IBG is projected to be one of the hottest spots to go to in the city this summer.
When: Now – TBD
Where: 221 N Columbus Blvd.
Another popular Philadelphia springtime favorite is Morgan’s Pier! The return of chef Jim Burke to our city has locals beyond excited since closing his restaurant, James, in 2011. With a great new menu that includes some past favorite dishes and over 40 brews, this is an ideal date night spot. Morgan’s Pier also has a delicious family friendly brunch menu that lasts from 11 AM – 3 PM on Saturdays and Sundays! Located on the Delaware River, it’s serene atmosphere allows for the perfect escape from city life. Be sure to stop by this weekend to hear DJ BeatStreet play on Friday and Mr Sonny James play on Saturday. Also, mark your calendars for May 26th… there is going to be a Guac Off starting at 6 PM! Enjoy unlimited fresh guacamole and chips from 12 local restaurants and help Morgan’s Pier crown the next Guacamole Master while supporting the MANNA mission.
