It’s the last full weekend before Christmas, folks! Here are the events we rounded up for you this weekend:
Manayunk Solstice Fires
Head to Canal View Park around 5 pm on December 19th to celebrate the coming of the shortest day of the year– Winter Solstice! Four times a year, Manayunk hosts a Solstice Fire in which to mark the beginning of the new season. Merge Dance Studio will perform two dances set to holiday music and storyteller Dennis Strain will entertain you with three Christmas tales as you sip (FREE) hot chocolate. Finally, the Wishing Stick Ceremony begins, in which you can watch the fires while listening to holiday tunes. Free December 19th, 5 pm. 4430 Main Street, 19127. More info here.
PFS Presents: Home for the Holidays
The Philadelphia Film Society continues its 12 day movie potluck that focuses on holiday films. This weekend, the movies include Gremlins, Fargo, Miracle on 34th Street, and A Muppet Christmas Carol. A fun activity for the whole family, this is a great excuse to get out of the house and spend time with your loved ones while watching classic favorites. $5 and up. December 19th-24th, 12 pm-8 pm. Santa at Frankford Hall
Santa returns to Frankford Hall this year to take some snaps with you and your family! During lunch time, patrons of the German-inspired beer hall can enjoy live music from the band Laura and Joe while sipping on one of their 26 beers. Not into beer? Try a mulled wine or hot cider (preferably with schnapps). Kids under 10 eat free as an added bonus! Free, food and drinks are pay as you go.
