Winter Olympics Drink Specials in Philly

Winter Olympics Drink Specials in Philly

The opening ceremonies for the 2014 winter Olympics have finally arrived!  A few bars in the city decided to take advantage of this and throw out some pretty clever promotional  specials…

From today’s torch lighting through the closing ceremonies on February 23, athletes from around the world will be battling it out at the 2014 Olympic Games. Despite lingering issues with the facilities in (hotels with no running water, walkway manholes without covers) and politics of Sochi, there should be plenty of global sporting fun to watch throughout the next two weeks.

Here are a few of those promotions:

Beer Olympics at The Cambridge

Starting February 7, this South Street West tavern is hosting a kick-the-keg tournament. Two beers from different countries will be offered at the same time for $4 per pour, and whichever kicks first moves on to the next round. The battle starts with USA (Stoudt’s APA) vs. Ireland (Harp), and other first-round matchups will be Canada (Molson) vs. Italy (Peroni), Russia (Baltica) vs. England (Wells) and Japan (Sapporo) vs. Germany (Bitburger).

Medal-Winning Beers at Devil’s Den

The annual Great American Beer Festival also gives out gold, silver and bronze medals, and each day of the Olympics, Erin Wallace’s South Philly pub is featuring a different medal-winning beer. Yards Brawler (silver, 2013) starts things off on February 7. Other beers to look forward to include Speakeasy Prohibition Ale (February 15, gold, 2013) and Left Hand Milk Stout (February 22, gold, 2013).

Moscow Mules at City Tap House

From opening to closing ceremonies, this West Philly bar is offering $5 Moscow Mules in honor of the host country. Cocktails usually run $8 each, so these vodka-ginger drinks are a good deal.
